Every garden begins with someone willing to plant a seed.
Behind every photograph, every story, and every bloom is a simple hope: to help others discover the beauty, wonder, and quiet wisdom waiting just outside their door.
Hi, I am Lana Ann.
I am honored you have taken time to visit my garden.
This is my garden story.
Why did I create
?
About 20 years ago, I moved to Central Texas and fell in love with the plants here. I finally had a place where I could do real gardening, and that I did! When my mom came to visit and saw the backyard garden, she told me that my great grandmother would be proud of me. Mom said her grandmother always told her that every plant tells a story. As soon as I heard her say that, something in me lit up. I asked Mom to tell me some of the stories, but she couldn’t remember any. Then it occurred to me that it was going to be my job.
I began keeping a journal and scribbling story ideas, writing nature poems and documenting garden inspiration and observations. I took gardening classes with emphasis on native plants, organic methods, and promoting pollinators. I went on garden tours and continued planting everything I could. Then eleven years ago, Mom moved in with me and we bought a house. At last, I had a garden that I could design from scratch and unleash my creativity. I added the cow window, the blue bench, a veggie garden, and dry creek. My backyard became my paradise.
What pushed me to finally get my project done?
There is nothing like nearly shedding my mortal coil to spring me into action! Being the ornery ole gal that I am, I survived a serious illness, and I am all the better for it. The first time I was strong enough to sit outside on my patio, I saw my garden in a new light. I experienced intense gratitude for my life and being on this beautiful planet. Every leaf and twig seemed extraordinary even though it was winter. The mockingbird sat on the fence and sang and sang as if to welcome me home. I felt caressed with love and healing.
I knew I had been given a wonderful gift that was not mine to keep, but to share with others. I became determined to make that happen, and here we are.
I hope you will stroll through the garden and tell your stories as well. I believe that by collectively sharing our love for nature, we can honor all life and amplify the wellbeing of ourselves and others.
What’s in my garden and are these really my plants?
I have over fifty types of native plants, as well as herbs, veggies, and other plants. There are birds, bunnies, and lots of pollinators in my garden. I am not a landscape designer or master gardener. I am just someone who loves nature and plants. The pictures you see are of my plants; real plants from a real garden taken by a real person on her phone.
